RUNNER
I was given the opportunity to work on a film set in Russia. The shoot was for a period drama TV series. I only worked on it for one night but it opened opportunities for further work out there. Unfortunately it wasn’t very easy to get many pictures while on set as I joined the crew by going there, based off information of a friend that people were filming there, and asking whether I could help out. After I informed them of the experience I already had, they were happy for me to jump on board but their camera department already had someone shadowing and so they asked me to be a runner.
Below shows the set we were filming on with the camera in position ready to go for a take. They were using a RED Ranger Gemini.
Below shows the horse and cart used for the film:
Below shows the boom operator’s boom up against the wall, just another picture I was able to take without anyone seeing:

I was lucky enough to make a contact with one of the other runners, one of the only people on set that was able to speak English, Nickolay Muranov. It was a challenging experience due to the fact that communication was so difficult. Most of the time I had to work on my own initiative and predict what was needed. This led to working on short film with him that I ended up being the Director of Photography.
